Donation to CHSA Collections

Due to the high volume of offers made to CHSA and limited storage facilities, all potential collections donations must be made in writing first. Please include the following in your letter: description of the item, photograph of the item, history of the item (time frame and what it was used for), pertinence to Chinese American history, and donor's information and background. This basic information will help CHSA determine the item's suitability for inclusion into the permanent collection. We are sorry that we cannot accept all collections donations that are offered to us. If you have any questions please contact Jeannie Woo, Collections Manager, at (415)-391-1188 for more information.

Photography and Video Camera Policy

Flash Photography and Film Lights
Flash photography and film lights will not be allowed inside the CHSA museum. Flash photography and film lights damage the integrity of CHSA's artifacts and photographs on display in the exhibition galleries.

Photography/Filming of Current CHSA Exhibits
All visitors to the museum must seek CHSA's permission before photographing or filming the exhibit. Visitors utilizing the photographs/video camera for personal use must sign a release form stating they will not use these images for commercial use and will not be charged a usage fee. Organizations, groups, or individuals intending to utilize the images for commercial use must fill out a contract and will be charged according to the fee usage schedule. Those granted permission will be allowed to photograph and film the exhibits without the use of flashes photography or film lights.

Rights and Reproduction

All requests that come to CHSA seeking permission to use any items in CHSA's for reproduction must be submitted in the form of a letter detailing the item requested, the usage, individual/company/organization using the item, distribution rights, format they will use the item in, and who the target audience of their final product is aimed at. Not all rights and reproduction requests will be granted, but the written request will help CHSA in the review process. Please allow two to three weeks for CHSA to reply to your request. If you have any questions please contact Jeannie Woo, Collections Manager, at (415)-391-1188 for more information.
